William Kurk is a multi-talented cosmic karma chameleon from The Great City of Chicago, pianist, vocalist, music director, recording artist & session player. Kurk hails from a musical family, offspring of divine intervention, his great grand uncle is none other than Thomas A. Dorsey, the father of gospel music.
Throughout his career Kurk has toured with The Dells, The Marvelettes, Platters, and Coasters & has accompanied an array of notable artists over the years including Dionne Warwick, Melba Moore, Martha Reeves, Stanley Jordan, Kindred The Family Soul, Chico DeBarge, Eric Roberson, KRS-ONE, Steve Arrington, Kool Moe Dee, Ronnie Laws and Julie Dexter.
The Midnight Riot Remixes EP features 2 songs off his 2019 album ‘Willionaire’. The story starts with one of the UK’s top shelf purveyors of the gospel sound, Toni Rossano aka The Showfa. In his Black Gospel quest he discovered Kurk’s album & set about re-editing the track ‘Highway To Humanity’ & then gave it to label boss Yam Who? to licence. Fast forward to 2021 & The Showfa has conjured up a 21st Boogie remix of William Kurk’s ‘Highway To Humanity’ keeping the Chi-Town church spirit of the song but with an uptown Saturday night feel.
Taking it back to The Home Team in The Great City of Chicago and no stranger to Midnight Riot Records, Andrew Emil aka Change Request comes with an entirely new vibe with his take on William Kurk's 'Willionaire'. Changing up the groove of the original, preferring to present a strong 90s NYC-era swing, Emil extends this formula across the whole track, crafting a modern club classic that will sound just as good tonight as it does in the daytime.
